On the Resistance of Cruciform Structures during Ship Collision and Grounding

This paper presents an experimental, numerical, and analytical study of a novel specimen subjected to local in-plane load, investigate its crushing deformation resistance. The was designed fabricated simplify the cruciform structure in double-hulled vessels external loads during collision grounding incidents. results will provide reliable insights into scenarios as well side vessels. A quasi-static indentation test related numerical research showed good agreement regarding mode force–displacement response. On basis experimental results, method is proposed derive energy, instantaneous resistance, mean resistance deformed structure. verified with recorded data nonlinear finite element analysis. It enables rapid assessment response under accidental loads, which guideline for design crashworthy hull structures their crashworthiness.
